Smartship Strikes Partnership With Kerry Logistics & Airpay
Smartship, aCommerce’s multi-shipping management platform has signed a partnership with Kerry Logistics, a leading logistics service provider in Asia and Garena backed Airpay to expand the platform’s availability for Thailand’s C2C merchants. Sellers will have access to Kerry Logistics’s wide network, allowing them to send more packages to more areas and to Airpay’s drop off locations.
Airpay has over 470,000 drop off points in Thailand, but Smartship is targeting 300+ locations in Bangkok for the initial launch. These drop off points can be found in populated, remote and community areas such as internet cafes, game stores and Mom & Pop shops. Merchants will be able to go to any Airpay counter with a Smartship shipping code sticker, drop-off their package and pay for delivery. This will speed up the logistics process for small businesses in a competitive market where over 51% of Thai shoppers shop through social media channels.
There is a large demand for C2C commerce in Thailand; Thai Post reports that approximately half a million packages from C2C merchants are delivered by the company per day. Drop-off counters such as Airpay help cut costs for smaller volumes, as the merchant can simplify their delivery process. According to Page365, Thailand’s most popular social commerce enabler, 96% of products delivered by C2C merchants are usually accessories weighing 1kg.
The demand for services like SmartShip tailored to small merchants is growing as the social commerce space expands. According to Pawoot Pongvitayapanu, founder of Tarad.com, Thailand has at least 1 million social users who sell through social media channels such as Facebook, Line and Instagram. One of country’s top ecommerce site is C2C marketplace Weloveshopping, with 6 million visitors over the past 6 months, 84% of which were referred from Facebook.
Social commerce merchants that are selling through their Line or Instagram accounts are struggle to compete with those on Tarad or Garena’s mobile commerce platform Shopee. These merchants would benefit from Kerry Logistics’ Thailand network and Airpay’s quick and easy payment counter dropoffs system, as it would cut down the hours put into waiting in line at the Post Office after manually sorting out shipment labels themselves.
