aCommerce Group CEO Paul Srivorakul visits Chinese startups with Southeast Asia tech delegation and Google

Paul Srivorakul, aCommerce Group CEO, was invited to represent Southeast Asian tech startups at a Google-organized workshop in Beijing.

Alongside unicorns SEA/Garena and Traveloka, aCommerce painted the growth opportunity for Chinese companies in Southeast Asia. At the same time, Southeast Asian startups learned by looking at China as a roadmap of the next decade and also from the Chinese tech work ethic.

“Chinese market numbers are at a whole other level. It’s a crystal ball for Southeast Asia and we’re probably 7-8 years behind, but exciting to see the future possibilities and trends we may leapfrog,”

Highlight of the trip was the office tour of Bytedance (owners of Toutiao, Musical.ly, TikTok/Douyin). It’s a $20B startup founded in 2012 that just passed Facebook as the #1 most downloaded app on iOS app store. They also just launched ecommerce capabilities.

“Like most Chinese startups they work crazy hours i.e. 996+. (9am-9pm, 6 days a week plus every other Sunday),” – Paul Srivorakul, aCommerce Group CEO.
