Get to Know the #aTeam – Magali Mercier, aCommerce Head of Production

Great images make an ecommerce site attractive. While having a well-developed ecommerce site is crucial, brands often overlook the importance of having professional images and product photos on its website. You could have a fast and responsive site and offer multiple products from your brand on a marketplace, but if the product images don’t look good, it doesn’t grab the consumers attention.

As a regional brand commerce enabler, aCommerce amongst many other factors gives detailed attention to product and website imagery. This helps clients to gain consumer trust, make their website or official store on marketplaces look good and attractive, and increase sales in the process.

What is your favorite part about working for aCommerce?

My favorite part about working at aCommerce is the complete ownership I have for the projects I work on. I have the freedom to do things in the way I see best and be creative as long as the end product fits in with the company’s big picture strategy and revenue expectations.  If at any point I need support or guidance, I’ll have it as long as I ask for it.

I learned here that there is so much more to the role of content production. It is not just about studios, models and flashlights. It is also important to have an understanding of the backend processes and software without which the magic of the perfect visual and display cannot happen.

As we manage multiple clients at aCommerce, consistent and clear communication across departments and externally is important to ensure assets are delivered on time. I’ve learned that a great scheduling and ticketing system ensures efficiency and transparency about the work in progress. Everyone here is always keen on taking constructive feedback that helps drive technology, teams, and clients closer to success.

Do you have any advice for those looking to join this industry?

Question everything!  Question in order to understand, question in order to support, question in order to bring changes. Everything is consistently in movement. Nothing is settled in stone whether its a process, a way of working or a service that can be improved.

One of the core values that you feel very close to at aCommerce?

Lead by example. Not necessarily speaking as a manager, but at aCommerce you’re surrounded by smart people. Getting things done and sharing best practices with others is extremely stimulating.

How did you decide to move to Thailand?

Moving to Thailand was on my checklist after working in China and Indonesia. I came here to work for a different company specialized in ecommerce and was working closely with aCommerce for the launch of some brands online that both companies had in common.

I wanted to work for aCommerce and got an interview with the company but they did not have any open positions that fit my skillset at that time. So I went to work in Australia and tried my luck again when I came back. Sometimes in life, it’s all about the timing. aCommerce was looking for a Head of Production at the time so everything fell into place very quickly.

If you had one superpower, what would you choose?

Mind reading!

What’s the last book you read?

I am currently reading 2084, a book by Boualem Sansal which is a novel taking place in a dystopia. It is a genius reminder of the book 1984, by George Orwell that at the time of its release seemed so far into the future but its up to date today.

An important lesson you’ve learned in the last year?

That beer pong is a sport that needs training!
